Taking Lakme Fashion Week Trends from Runway to Reality : The Corset Belt
The one trend that has majorly blown up this season would have to be the corset belt. The belt was all over runways across the world, from international runways to right here at Lakme Fashion Week. Ritu Kumar and Masaba Gupta both put their own unique twists to an otherwise very traditional corset.
At House of Masaba, the corset was worn with sarees, marrying Victorian and desi together. The collection focussed on tribal and Warli embroidery in beautiful rich colours. The result was an uber feminine yet structured aesthetic, which oozed effortless style.
Ritu Kumar used the corset as an innovative add-on, adorning her dresses with a more intricate, tasselled avatar. Playful tropical prints and bright summery colours added a quirky twist to an otherwise autumn-winter collection, with the corset belt being the element which tied everything together.
Talking about the trend off the runway too, almost every it-girl has worn the corset to elevate a basic outfit or to up her layering game. This trend is the perfect way to add some pizzazz to your outfit, but can look over the top if not styled properly. I personally have embraced the trend in several ways, and want to show you guys how you can too! Here are some ways I’ve worn these statement belts.
A golden corset belt is the ultimate dressy piece. I’ve worn a classic white shirt here, and some black jeans. But the belt is enough to elevate the look from boring basics to dressed-up-winner. With accessories, I’ve gone for gold to stay in the same colour pallet.
When doing an all-black look, a good rule to abide by is to stick to different textures and materials to keep it from getting too boring. The leather corset belt adds an unexpected punch of texture and edge to my evening maxi. Added some trusty black stilettos to keep the look slightly more dressed up.
Denim on denim can be too mainstream? Add a corset belt to break the tones up! Here, the black leather is the perfect companion to the blue on blue, creating a refreshing denim + leather combination. I’ve paired it with some tough leather booties and a choker to keep the look tough and edgy.
A white shirtdress makes for a perfect daytime look. How do you make sure to be on trend though? Some floral patches and of course, a trusty leather corset belt! Add some shades and you’re good to go.
A corset belt is a definite investment piece this season. If you haven’t got one yet I hope these looks were enough to motivate you to take the plunge! Although a very trendy piece, they are also super versatile and add that wow factor to any look. They should definitely be high up on y’all’s shopping lists since they’ll also transition very well into the cooler weather.
